How to Login

How do I log in?

For loan account and interlibrary loan, login with your library card number and library password.
The ID number is the number on the back of the UniCard, bottom left.
For students of Bielefeld University, the library password is (initially) the "initial" BITS password. For other users, the password is the one you set yourself when you applied for your library card. You can change the library password in the loan account (see next section).

For other services (personal login at PCs, Wi-Fi, PUB etc.) the login is usually done with the BITS identification (BITS user name and BITS password). Please refer to the BITS instructions. Students of other universities have the possibility to use the Wi-Fi via Eduroam.

Change Password / Password forgotten

You can change the library password for loan account and interlibrary loan directly in your loan account. The changed password must comply with our password policy (see below). Please note that the change only applies to the loan account and interlibrary loan, not to other services. If you use a uniform password for the university services, you must also change your BITS password in the PRISMA portal (see next paragraph). If you have forgotten your library password, click on the link "Forgot your library password" on the login page for the loan account. To use this function, you must have entered your e-mail address in the loan account. If you have any questions about the library password, please contact the reference department.

You can change the BITS password in the PRISMA portal (instructions for changing the BITS password). If you use a uniform password for the university services, you must change the password in your loan account afterwards and the password must comply with the library's password policy (see below). If you have forgotten your BITS password, click on the link "Forgot password" on the login page in the PRISMA portal.

  • The password must contain at least one upper or lower case letter (a-z or A-Z)
  • The password must contain at least one digit (0-9)
  • The password must contain at least one special character. Allowed are:
    ! " ( ) = [ ] { } ? \ + * ~ # , ; . - _

Recommendations

  • Do not use names or words that appear in a dictionary
  • Do not use any keyboard, letter or number sequences in your password (qwerty, abcdef, 12345)
  • To easily remember a complicated password, use e.g. the first letters from a sentence and add numbers and special characters. For example, the sentence "My two brothers (Paul and Carlo) live in Dortmund" could become the password M2B(P+C)liD.
  • Change your password regularly (about once a year), especially if you use the same password in different systems
  • Do not use the same password in all systems
