Award ceremony at the Medical School OWL

As an expression of special recognition of outstanding academic achievements in research and teaching, the Medical School OWL of Bielefeld University may decide to award the title of "Associate Professor" in accordance with Section 41 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Universities Act.

The award honours staff, people who have made special achievements for the Medical School OWL in research, teaching and the promotion of young researchers.

In the Guidelines of the Medical School OWL of Bielefeld University on the awarding of the title "Associate Professor" regulates the following aspects, among others:

• Requirements and criteria
• Procedure for the award including documents to be submitted
• Responsible committees and assessment

Outline of the procedure

• Professors of the Med. OWL submit a reasoned proposal to the Dean.
• The Dean forwards the reasoned proposal to the APL Committee.
• The committee requests the documents necessary for further examination from the candidate in accordance with point 4 para. 2 of the guidelines.
• The APL Committee checks whether the requirements for opening the procedure are met and informs the Dean of the result.
• If the preliminary examination is positive, the next possible faculty conference will vote on the opening of the procedure.
• If it is decided to open the procedure, the APL Committee appoints the reviewers.
• Once all reviews have been received, the APL Committee formulates a final statement for the decision in the faculty conference.
• The faculty conference votes on the award.
• The rector is responsible for implementing the award of the designation.

APL Committee

The APL Committee oversees the procedure for awarding the title "Associate Professor" and ensures that the provisions of the guidelines are adhered to. The APL Committee is chaired by the Dean.
