University Medical Center East Westphalia-Lippe

An important pillar of medical studies is clinical training in hospitals. Bielefeld University does not run its own university hospital. Instead, it cooperates with selected specialist clinics of three hospitals in the region, which together form the "University Medical Center East Westphalia-Lippe":

The Protestant Hospital of the Bethel Foundation and the Clinic Mara combine state-of-the-art hospital care with the 150-year-old values of the v. Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel. With 1,755 beds, over 5,000 employees and 170,000 patients treated annually in a total of 30 clinics, institutes, specialist departments and centres. Special focal points are: Epileptology, Neurology, Disability Medicine, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Trauma Medicine in the supra-regional Trauma Centre, Anaesthesiology, Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine, Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Paediatric Surgery with the Perinatal Centre (Level I) as well as interdisciplinary cancer therapy in the Tumour Centre. The university research focuses on disability, participation, chronic diseases and assistive technologies of the new Medical School OWL are Bethel's DNA.

Under the motto "Our competence for your health", Klinikum Bielefeld stands for patient-oriented and modern high-performance medicine. At the three locations Klinikum Bielefeld Mitte, Klinikum Bielefeld Rosenhöhe and Klinikum Halle/Westfalen, more than 3,000 qualified employees ensure patient care 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Every year, more than 140,000 patients are treated in the 30 specialist clinics and institutes of the hospital. The hospital has a total of more than 1,200 beds. Klinikum Lippe is one of the largest municipal hospitals in Germany and, with Campus Klinikum Lippe, part of the University Medical Center East Westphalia-Lippe. Medical research and innovative diagnostics, qualified teaching and optimal patient care are the focus of more than 30 specialist clinics, centres and institutes. With heart and high-tech, around 2,800 employees at the locations Detmold, Lemgo and Bad Salzuflen are committed to around 150,000 patients a year. As a company of Gesundheit Lippe GmbH, the hospital with 1,224 beds and a large number of outpatient clinics is responsible for the health care of the population in Lippe and beyond. Whether in the family clinic, the oncology centres or geriatric medicine: patients find a competent contact at Klinikum Lippe for almost every health issue and every age.

The staffing of the University Medical Center East Westphalia-Lippe is a multi-year process that began in summer 2019. The clinical professorships at the three hospitals will be filled successively.
