Subscribe to calendar under MacOS

In advance:

  • To subscribe to a shared calendar, the owner must have previously entered their personal email address for sharing with at least the "All details" authorisation level.
  • In these instructions, a calendar share for the calendar berta.musterfrau@uni-bielefeld.de for max.muster@uni-bielefeld.de is used as an example.
  • Sub-calendar: In addition to the authorisation for the sub-calendar, there must also be an authorisation for the main calendar. For this, at least the authorisation level "Availability only" must be assigned.

As of macOS 13 (Ventura), there have been changes whereby the previous method no longer works and an error occurs ("Account name/password could not be verified.").

The following two options via Exchange (recommended) or Caldav now exist, but may not work reliably.

1.

The personal mailbox including calendar must be added as an account via Exchange. -> Instructions for mailbox integration

2.

Open the Calendar programme and go to Calendar > Settings ... here.

3.

Switch to Accounts > Delegation and click on the + symbol.

4.

Enter the address of the calendar to be subscribed to in the User:inside field and press Enter.

5.

If this has worked, the access rights are displayed. The window can be closed and the calendar is displayed in the programme in the "Delegates" category.

You must first add your personal calendar and then change the settings.

1.

Open the Calendar programme and go to Calendar > Add account ... here.

2.

In the selection, click on Other CalDAV account ... and continue.

3.

Account type:
-> Manual

Username:
-> Personal email (for which the authorisation exists)

Password:
-> Personal BITS password

Server address:
-> caldav.uni-bielefeld.de

Finally, click on Registration . The personal calendar will now be displayed (it may take a few minutes to load).

4.

Go to Calendar > Settings ... .

5.

Switch to Accounts > Server settings .

Here the server path must be changed to the calendar to be subscribed to. In the example: /principals/users/berta.musterfrau@uni-bielefeld.de/

Close settings.

The subscribed calendar is now displayed and no longer the personal calendar. If the personal calendar is to be displayed again, steps 1-3 must be repeated.

Possible errors/problems

  • After the change, an exclamation mark (!) is displayed on the calendar and is not loaded:
    Close the programme completely and make the change to the server path again.
  • Exclamation mark is still displayed:
    Check approval authorisation. This must have the level "All details", "Editor" or "Substitute" in the webmailer.
