Work safely in your home office
The security of business data must also be ensured when working at home. There are binding regulations for this at Bielefeld University. These include the correct handling of business data and business and private IT equipment. The staff unit Data Protection and Information Security has summarized the binding regulations.
- Windows and program updates on supported computers
Windows computers used in the home office are supplied with updates - depending on the configuration by the respective IT support - as follows:
- Computers supported by the BITS/Service Desk (via Ivanti)
Are provided with Windows & program updates. It is recommended to have a VPN connection to the university.
- Computers maintained by faculties/institutions (via Ivanti)
Are provided with program updates. It is recommended to have a VPN connection to the university.
If the Windows Update Server (WSUS) of the university is configured for Windows updates, a VPN connection is required. This can be obtained from the respective IT support. - Computers maintained by faculties/institutions
Program updates depend on the configuration of the computer.

VPN connection
In order to access the network drives or use SAP from an external location, for example, a VPN connection must first be established. The Cisco Secure Client is required for this.
Before downloading, please check whether the Cisco Secure Client is already installed on the (business) computer. In the Windows Start menu or under Programs.
The fastest and easiest way to access email accounts is via the webmailer.

Network drives
Access to the personal network drives and group drives from external. A VPN connection is required.

SAP
Access to the different SAP modules via WebGui. A VPN connection is required for this.

Videoconferencing
DFNConf
With DFNConf, employees can use video/audio conferences via the browser and thus create virtual meeting rooms themselves.

Zoom
Due to its simple operation, Zoom is well suited for webinars or group work in studies and teaching. Employees and students can register free of charge via web authentication at https://uni-bielefeld.zoom.us. Bielefeld University has held a campus licence for this since mid-April 2020.

Telephone Conferencing
The possibilities under video conferencing can also be used for audio-only telephone conferences.
Alternatively, telephone conferences can also be used via mobile phone. In addition a manual for iOS and Android:

Home learning / Distance learning
Lecturers can use the centrally offered learning platforms and the Panopto video platform to conduct their courses online and make them available as recordings or live streams. DFNconf (see above) or Adobe Connect can also be used for webinars.
