Every semester, the German Mathematical Society (DMV) honours an outstanding personality in mathematics with the Gauss Lecture. In Winter Semester 2023/24, the Gauss Lecture will be held at Bielefeld University for the first time.
The event is aimed at interested members of the public.
On Friday, November 17, 2023, Prof. Sir Martin Hairer will talk about “Coin tosses, atoms, and forest fires”. Martin Hairer is a professor of mathematics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and at Imperial College, London and works in the field of stochastic analysis. For his research he has received many awards, including a Fields Medal and a Breakthrough Prize.
In addition, Dr. Andreas Daniel Matt, Managing Director of IMAGINARY gGmbH, will give an interactive lecture on “Experiments with art, artificial intelligence, music and climate change” (in German).
The Bielefeld Gauss Lecture will take place on Friday, November 17th, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. in the lecture hall building Y at Bielefeld University. From 3 p.m. there will be coffee and cake. The event is open to the public and free of charge. All interested parties, including from schools and universities, are welcome.
Guests at the event are invited to bring a tablet or laptop for the interactive lecture by Dr. Matt!
